Big Rock “Metric Mauler” From Rock Island Armory On December GUNS Cover
(ArmsVault.com) – Rock Island Armory’s 16-shot High-Cap 10mm sits front and center on the cover of GUNS Magazine’s last issue of 2015. Contributing EPditor Mark Hampton weighs in on the Big Rock’s performance after a day at the range.
“The first thing I noticed was how well the Big Rock handled recoil,” Hampton writes. “When loaded, the gun tips the scales at more than 3.5 pounds, and this extra weight is beneficial in taming felt recoil … it is pleasant to shoot, easy to control and will make a serious hunting pistol for the field.”
In “Straight Pull Solution,” Executive Editor Payton Miller pairs the Patriot Ordnance’s ReVolt with Burris’ MTAC 4.5-14x42mm scope to test out this 50-state legal “manual AR.”
“What we have is a very well-made, innovative, very pricey AR lookalike with a straight-pull bolt arrangement,” Miller writes. “The prevailing consensus was something along the lines of ‘Boy, I’ll bet this thing shoots’ … Turns out, it most certainly did, and the Burris 4.5-14X scope proved to be an excellent choice. ReVolt’s modular rail setup means you can put just about anything you’d want to put on an AR — scopes, lights, lasers, red dots, you name it.”
In the “2015 GUNS Christmas Gift Guide,” John Connor offers up his annual roundup of holiday gift ideas, including gear from SureFire, White River Knives, Laser-Ammo, Steiner-Optik, Prois Hunting and Nature Blinds to help “Super-Santas” check off all the people on their holiday lists.
“From stocking stuffers to Super-Santa Specials, just feast your eyes on this cool list of yuletide goodies, folks,” Connor writes. “You may not be Mr. Techno, but you gave give some lucky person a slice of Star Wars gear: the P2X Fury flashlight with IntelliBeam by SureFire. It automatically adjusts light output from 15 to 600 lumens, so no blinding beam when peepin’ in your trunk and no wimpy light when searching an alleyway.”
Other features in the December issue of GUNS include a feature on a trio of M1 WWII classics by Mike “Duke” Venturino, a look at switch-barrel rifles by John Barsness and a column by Holt Bodinson on Ruger’s “two-fer” takedown AR — an exciting development in the MSR world that allows an almost-instant 5.56-to-.300 BLK option.
