Michel Earns Spot on Team USA for 2017 World Shooting Championship

Newington, NH (September 22, 2016) – (ArmsVault.com) – SIG SAUER, Inc., announces that Team SIG Captain, Max Michel, was named the Overall Champion at the 2016 International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Nationals in Frostproof, Florida. Competing in the Open Division, Michel won both the overall title and the division title, and secured a place on the United States Team for the 2017 World Shooting Championship.

“It is a great feeling to be able to win the IPSC Nationals, while at the same time also earning an opportunity to represent the United States at the World Shooting Championship,” said Michel. “The IPSC World Shoot is our Olympics, as it’s the only event where an action shooter can represent his or her country. I’m truly honored to be a part of the men’s USA Team for a sixth consecutive year.”

In the race for the Overall Championship, Michel held off fellow divisional competitor, Shannon Smith, to secure his second IPSC National title. Competing with a customized SIG SAUER 1911 pistol over the course of the three-day competition, Michel concluded the match with a final score of 1297.1298, earning him the National title by more than 69 match points.

“The IPSC Nationals is the only international event held in the United States,” said Michel. “It’s a great event as it forces us as U.S. shooters to better understand what we can expect to see at the next World Shoot. With the World Championship less than a year away, this event combined elite competition with important training.”

Competitors at the 2016 IPSC Nationals were tested in both speed and accuracy as they took on 16 challenging stages of fire involving both stationary and moving targets. Michel posted consistently high results throughout the competition, earning the top score in five of the courses of fire.

Michel’s recent victory comes on the heels of another top performance at the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Area 4 Championship. So far this season, Michel has added 12 overall titles to his already historic shooting resume.
