Columbus, Georgia — Heckler & Koch is expanding their high-end MR rifle line into the hot realm of competitive shooting. A new variant of the MR series is being introduced at the 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada this week. The Competition Model is a customized version of HK’s MR556A1 rifle, the semi-automatic model of the company’s legendary HK416 carbine.
“We took the basic MR556A1 and added a few tweaks and accessories to make it the ideal gun platform for competition matches — especially 3 gun competitions,” said Jason Koon, captain of HK’s Shooting Team and originator of the new rifle.
“With its inherent precision accuracy, there wasn’t much we needed to do to make this 556 rifle an excellent comp gun,” continued Koon. “It needed a longer, more comfortable handguard and a slimmer buttstock. Together with a larger magazine release and effective compensator and that’s about all you want to add.”
The Competition Model is equipped with a new, extended 14-inch handguard produced by HK’s Newington, New Hampshire manufacturing facility. A Magpul CTR buttstock replaces the standard stock and an advanced compensator developed by OSS (Operators Suppressor Systems) supersedes the conventional MR flash hider.
The MR556A1 Competition rifle is priced at $2,947.
