Wad
A wad is a component of a shotgun shell (shotshell), typically plastic, that separates the shot from the powder. It also contains the shot, and provides a seal that prevents gas from blowing through the shot rather than propelling the shot out of the shotgun. The wad is expelled from the barrel with each shot and is not reused.
