USGMC Magnetic Gun Mat Review

There are plenty of gun-related products that I know I want. This review is about a few products that, until I had them, I didn’t know I how much they were needed.

Allow me to introduce you to the magnetic gun mats from US Gun Mat Company (USGMC). For those of you that spend time working on or cleaning firearms, you will definitely want to check these out.

USGMC currently offers two types of gun mats, including their Magnetic Work Mats, and their Magnetic Flat Mats. Both are available in various sizes. Magnetic Part Trays are also available, which can be used with or without the mats.

I realize that gun mats aren’t what many of us would consider to be the sexiest of gun-related products. So, I’m not going to spend a lot of time dwelling on their construction. The bottom line is that USGMC has done a great job of putting these mats together. They are assembled from quality material and perform exactly as they should. The question is, do you need them?

Well, I can tell you that these gun mats have become a staple of my gun cleaning and maintenance products. The first time I dropped a firing pin retaining pin on the mat, and it stuck exactly where it fell, I knew that these mats had found a permanent home.

Which mat is best for you? Personally, I use both types, but in different ways.

In all honesty, I do have a favorite… the Magnetic Flat Mat. I have the Large (24”x48”) mat, which is exactly the size of my work table. So basically it acts as a magnetic table top. If I’m working on a job with small parts, I throw down a couple of the Magnetic Part Trays to help keep things organized. But if the trays aren’t needed, I don’t have to have them cluttering up my work space. Either way, I love the flexibility of this combination.

Just because the Flat Mat is my favorite doesn’t mean that I haven’t put the Work Mat to good use. In fact, it is probably the mat that I use the most. Let me explain…

I have a rule… gun cleaning chemicals are not allowed on my computer desk. That being said, I constantly break that rule. That is why the USGMC Magnetic Work Mat has earned a place at the corner of my desk. As long as I keep the chemicals on that mat, I am assured that computer components won’t be damaged in the event of a spill. This type of mat would also be ideal for those of you that clean guns at the kitchen table, which has certainly been known to happen at my house.
