Path of the Assassin by Brad Thor

Background

Scot Harvath, a former Navy SEAL turned Secret Service agent recently rescued the President from kidnappers. But his job is far from over. He is now on a mission to find and eliminate those responsible. In doing so, the trail leads him to a sophisticated terrorist network that is determined to destroy Israel and America.

My Thoughts

I’ll be honest… At times, I tend to be a pessimist. After reading Brad Thor’s most recent novel, Black List, I was a little afraid to begin his Scot Harvath series from the beginning. I was just sure that it wouldn’t measure up to Black List. However, I read The Lions of Lucerne (Scot Harvath #1) and loved it. But that doesn’t mean my pessimism stopped. Prior to beginning Path of the Assassin (Scot Harvath #2), my thought process went something like this: “Okay, Brad… Don’t screw this up!” Well, I am happy to report that he didn’t! In fact, in many ways I enjoyed his second book more than the first, which is saying a lot! Path of the Assassin began by tying up some loose ends from The Lions of Lucerne. It then proceeded (full throttle) with Scot Harvath’s next adventure.

Summary

No doubt about it… You need to read Path of the Assassin. However, I would strongly encourage you to read The Lions of Lucerne first. Although Path of the Assassin would still be great as a stand-alone story, I can’t help but think that the reader might be a bit lost at times if they didn’t read The Lions of Lucerne first.

On a side note, after reading Path of the Assassin, be sure to visit Brad Thor’s website. He gives some fascinating background into to the writing of this story.
